All in all, this was an extremely enlightening experience. The people I met were extremely inspiring and dedicated to making a better future for their children. HEIFER offers impoverished people a hand up and not a hand out. Recipients are hard-working and humble people. It is our duty to be global citizens and embrace the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Together we can eradicate global hunger!

El Rosario - we visited an award winning project – this man had an amazing variety of crops he cultivates, a huge composting system, cows, bees, chickens. His wife was on the porch making cheese when we arrived. She later made us tea with cinnamon bark and pineapple.
Had a lunch of chicken and vegetable soup – tons of vegetables – at another house . We tried “caldo de caña” – sugar cane broth. Very sweet! In a corner of the room was a corn silo over 6 feet tall – handy when you need more corn to make tortillas. They walked us around and showed us their plants and animals and they were so proud of all they’ve accomplished.
